The Fenestration and Glazing Industry Alliance has released an updated specification establishing the minimum requirements for fiber reinforced thermoset exterior profiles used in fenestration products.

AAMA 305-22, Voluntary Specification for Fiber Reinforced Thermoset Profiles, an FGIA document, is now available for purchase. This 12-section document was last updated in 2018.

“The minimum performance requirements established in this specification are based on the experience and many years of research and testing by the fiberglass fenestration industry,” said Robert Plagemann, Chair of the FGIA FMC Lamination Task Group. “Fenestration products made with profiles that meet the requirements of this specification are expected to perform well in actual use, assuming adequate product design.”

AAMA 305 assists architects, contractors, manufacturers, designers and owners in specifying these profiles for interior and exterior use in fenestration products, which may have to provide and maintain a standard level of weathering performance over a period of many years. This specification applies to profiles including main-frame, sash and all structural components related to glass retention and/or structurally divided lites.

In this edition, references to FGIA documents were updated and one section on adhesive bond performance was removed. In 2018, updates were made to AAMA 305 introducing two different performance levels. The established Level I performance is adequate for most fenestration applications. However, for applications that require higher flexural strength and stiffness, an optional Level II has been established, with loading parameters up to seven times those of Level I.

AAMA 305-22, as well as other AAMA documents available from FGIA, may be purchased from the online store at the discounted member rate of $20 or the non-member price of $60.
