DEWA partners GulfSol for Middle East's leading solar energy event

Date: 25 August 2015

Under the Patronage of the Ministry of Energy of the United Arab Emirates, Gulf Sol 2015, the region’s leading solar technology event and summit is proud to announce the support of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), the exclusive provider of electricity and water services in Dubai.

The second GulfSol will take place from Monday 14 September to Wednesday 16 September at the Dubai World Trade Centre.

DEWA will also participate in the Global Solar Leaders’ Summit, a strong summit taking place on September 14 during GulfSol event. DEWA will have a strong presence at the exhibition that will gather international and local exhibitors bringing together key players in the solar industry across the Middle East and North Africa regions. Dedicated to the solar industry, the exhibition is a platform to meet with the top global suppliers of solar products and services. Earlier this year, DEWA launched the start of its first smart initiative, the Shams Dubai, to regulate the generation of solar energy for houses and buildings across Dubai. The project supports the Green Economy for Sustainable Development economic initiative, which was launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum. Council Resolution Number 46 of 2014, issued by Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council, allows customers to install photovoltaic panels to generate electricity from solar power in buildings.

“Dubai Electricity and Water Authority is committed to achieving its vision to become a sustainable innovative world-class utility. Renewable energy is a key strategic objective for DEWA, which is working to expand the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park to generate 2,600MW from renewable energy by 2030,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA.

DEWA is working to achieve the objectives of the Dubai Integrated Energy Strategy 2030, formulated by the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, to diversify energy resources and improve efficiency of electricity and water usage and aims to generate 71 per cent of its total power output from natural gas, 7 per cent from nuclear power, 7 per cent from clean coal and 15 per cent from renewable energy by 2030.

“It is an honour to receive Dubai Electricity and Water Authority’s pledge of support to GulfSol 2015. We look forward to collaborating with DEWA on many elements of this important event, including the Global Solar Leader’s Summit. Adding DEWA to our support system, along with the Ministry of Energy and Middle East Solar Industry Association (MESIA), we are certain the event will achieve its objectives of highlighting the importance of renewable energy,” said Muhammed Kazi, Senior Project Manager, GulfSol.

GulfSol 2015 supports UAE’s Vision 2021 of achieving a sustainable environment in terms of air quality, conserving water resources, more reliance on clean energy, and implementing green development.

Middle East Solar Energy Association (MESIA) is a knowledge partner of GulfSol 2015, which will kick off on Monday 14th September until 16th September 2015 and will be open 10:00-18:00 each day. For further information visit www.gulf.solar.
