AGC Flat Glass North America Inc. is reducing its work force here, according to a news release form the company Friday morning.

The company, formerly AFG Industries, cited “difficult market conditions” for the decision.

“AGC Flat Glass North America announced today that it has initiated cost reduction initiatives across its operations in North America in an effort to remain competitive in light of increasingly difficult market conditions that are expected to continue through 2008,” the release said. “The initiatives will impact a number of different cost areas and will result in a work force reduction of less than 2 percent in the Kingsport area.”

Founded in 1978 and headquartered in Alpharetta, Ga., AGC Flat Glass is part of Japan-based Asahi Glass Co. Ltd., the world leader in glass production. A fully integrated supplier, AGC Flat Glass North America has 4,300 employees nationwide.
