AGC Establishes the First Technical Center for the Chemicals Business in Shanghai City, China

Boosting Sales of Fluorinated Functional Chemicals by Enhancing Technical Service Functions—AGC (Asahi Glass Co., Ltd.; Head Office: Tokyo; President & CEO: Kazuhiko Ishimura) announces that it has established its first technical center for the chemicals business in Shanghai City, China, and will launch operations on March 10.  With this technical center, AGC aims to strengthen its locally based technical service functions and boost sales of its fluorinated functional chemicals in China.

"Arial">AGC has been conducting sales activities to meet regional demand through AGC Chemicals Trading (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. in Shanghai City and its Guangzhou Branch, and sales of its chemicals in China, mainly of fluorinated functional chemicals, have doubled over the last several years. Demand for fluorinated functional chemicals, which have excellent weatherability and long service life, is increasing for use in areas such as automotive, electronics, buildings, and agricultural greenhouses. In addition, they have significant demand growth potential in environmental and other fields.

Demand from customers is increasing for high-level, prompt technical support for fluorinated functional chemicals with the expansion of application fields. Accordingly, AGC has set up a technical center that provides technical services and conducts application development and analysis operations in Shanghai City.

Description of business  -Provision of technical services and application development and analysis operations for fluorinated resin Fluon®, fluoropolymer films Fluon®ETFE Film, fluoropolymer resin for coating Lumiflon™, and fluorinated elastomers AFLAS™, water and oil repelling processing agents Asahiguard™ E-Series and other fluorinated functional chemicals.

The AGC Group is pursuing the growth of its chemicals business as one of the key measures of its medium-term management plan “Grow Beyond-2015”, aiming to further bolster business in fast-growing markets where continuing high growth is expected.
