AGC and FGI square up to high performance glazing

Date: 3 December 2010

Around one thousand energy efficient IG units from FGI's Everseal range featuring AGC's Planibel Low-E laminated glass are part of the high performance specification of Arundel Square, a striking new residential development in Islington, North London.

Incorporated into an innovative aluminium curtain walling system designed and installed by Deepdale Solutions, the glazing is acoustically rated to reduce ambient noise from the outside, and also offers excellent thermal insulation for the 115 apartments and penthouses.

Everseal vision units are combined in the contemporary six-storey building with FGI's Everclad ceramic frit panels with 60mm insulation. Units range in shape and size from 2,395mm x 1,932mm - giving residents panoramic views across the square - to 145mm x 735mm. The project also specified Everseal IG units with specialist edge work and bolt-through assemblies for glazed porches in the penthouse apartment area.

Everseal vision units produced for Arundel Square are assembled from 10mm Clear laminated glass, 12mm warm edge Thermo Plastic Spacer (TPS) and 8.8mm Top N+ laminated soft coat glass from AGC's Planibel range. Top N+ is a high light transmission, low emissivity glass specially designed for use in double glazed units. It offers an excellent level of thermal insulation (up to 1.1 U-value with argon gas filling) together with free solar heat gain and low light reflection. Everseal gas-filled laminated units offer the superior insulation and reliability of TPS warm edge technology, which delivers a warm edge zone with a uniform temperature over the entire surface, while the flexible edge seal tolerates thermal stresses and wind loads - a crucial factor in commercial and structural glazing.

Martin Skidmore, Purchasing Manager of Hartlepool-based Deepdale Solutions, says his company had no hesitation in recommending FGI Everseal for the prestigious Arundel Square contract. He comments: "We're committed to providing world-class building envelope solutions for our clients and only work with suppliers who share our high standards. FGI Everseal met our quality and delivery schedules throughout the duration of this project, contributing to successful, on-time completion."

Modern commercial glazing contracts like Arundel Square demand the expertise in commercial IG production and advanced manufacturing technology that Everseal can offer, says Paul Newcombe, Everseal's Head of Commercial Projects: "We are one of the few UK companies capable of producing insulating glass units up to 5m x 2.7m, and our computer-controlled process facilitates the manufacture of shaped and rectangular units in any sequence, and each stage is fully automated to maintain consistent quality."
