In a new video, available on the company’s site, officials at Owatonna, Min.-based Viracon interviewarchitects, daylighting consultants and building professionals to explore strategies for balancing daylight, comfort and energy efficiency, according to an April 26 release.

Through the advancement of architectural glass design, we’ve discovered that daylighting is not about letting the maximum amount of light in," said Don McCann, architectural design manager, Viracon, in the release. "Instead, it’s about letting the right amount of light in. We created the video to raise awareness about the issue and highlight strategies architects and building owners can use to balance daylighting and energy efficiency, especially when it comes to achieving LEED certification.”

Through interviews with architects and daylighting consultants, the Viracon video explores ways of “right-sizing” glass for daylighting. Design experts discuss the use of glazing tools such as silk-screening, coatings on the No. 2 surface, tinted substrates, different high-performance coatings and varied glass configurations to achieve the optimal amount of visible light and energy performance.
