Taiwan panel makers to invest NT$260 billion in 2006

Industrial Development Bureau, Taiwan Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA), indicated that Taiwan panel makers will invest NT$260 billion (US$8.04 billion) this year, with the overall industry value to exceed NT$1 trillion (US$30.1 billion) in Taiwan, according to the Chinese-language Commercial Times.Panel makers will invest NT$700 billion over the next three years for over-7.5-generation (7.5G) TFT LCD production.Investments from glass substrate makers such as Corning, Asahi Glass, Nippon Electric Glass (NEG) and NH Techno Glass (NHT) and color filter makers, along with in-house CF investments will reach NT$200 billion in Taiwan over the next three years, with the amount to be spread between the substrate and CF industries, the paper said.
