Date: 4 September 2015

Saint-Gobain Sekurit Transport organized a Tech-Day at Alstom’s headquarters, near Paris (France), in collaboration with Glassolutions and Solar Gard® (Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics), to exchange on rail transport strategies and present their solutions on this market, in the presence of the Design, Marketing and Engineering VPs of Alstom Transport.  This was also the opportunity for Saint-Gobain Sekurit Transport to sign a long-term “Leading Partner” agreement and position itself as sole preferred glass supplier. This program is aimed at supporting Alstom’s suppliers by offering them access to a greater potential volume of business and co-development programs, and by ensuring streamlined management of the customer-supplier relationship, in a continuous improvement approach. The main items on the agenda included the presentation of the Alstom strategy, Saint-Gobain’s research and innovation policy, and the major market trends – energy control thanks to lightening and lower use of air conditioning, and connectivity thanks to laser-engraved glazing. In the head office atrium transformed into a showroom, Saint-Gobain Sekurit Transport unveiled smart glass technologies for train sidelites: laminated glass with switchable film or even an embedded LCD display, and electrochromic glass of SageGlass®.Glassolutions exhibited its interior design glass solutions, like the gate of the Kuala Lumpur underground made of LED illuminating glass with dual screen-printing produced by the Alp’Verre facility, and developed by the CRDC for XEROX.

Rail applications are vast: illuminating glass luggage-racks, illuminating mirrors, doors, partition-walls, lounge-carriage tables, E-GLAS heatable glass. The Texglass range, fabric-integrating laminated glass which may be used in compartments or doors, was also on display.

Solar Gard presented its innovative solutions dedicated to the protection of public transport: Graffitigard®, the anti-graffiti film which can be applied on interior and exterior windows, the LX70 solar control anti-UV and anti-infra-red film for passenger comfort, and the Clearshield® film designed to protect bodywork.
