Date: 22 March 2012

BEIJING, March 20, 2012 – PPG Industries (NYSE:PPG) was recognized as “2011 Responsible Corporate Citizen” and “2011 Excellent Charity Program” during a recent ceremony in Beijing for “Responsible China Under the Camera,” a photography competition hosted by C-SR.net, Baidu.com and other leading media groups in China.

Recognition of the needs and concerns of society is a key corporate value of PPG, reflected in the company’s ongoing investment in education, energy-saving and environmental-protection measures, and community development,” said Cathy Yan, PPG general manager, government affairs and business development, Asia/Pacific. “We are committed to corporate social responsibility and hope that our efforts encourage more companies to take initiative and act as responsible corporate citizens as well.”

Launched in November 2011, “Responsible China Under the Camera” is a nationwide photography competition featuring outstanding charity programs across China. Its purpose is to promote charity and social responsibility by highlighting moments in the charity programs initiated by enterprises in China. After a four-month competition, 20 companies including PPG were selected from among more than 100 candidates and named “2011 Responsible Corporate Citizen,” and PPG Corporate Social Responsibility Zitong Base was honored as a “2011 Excellent Charity Program” for its support of education in earthquake-stricken Zitong County, Mianyang City, Sichuan Province.

In 2009, PPG helped to construct 50 “PPG Care Libraries” in earthquake-stricken Zitong County and donated more than 150,000 books as well as “green” coatings to the libraries, in addition to establishing the PPG CSR Zitong Base, which continues to conduct charitable activities in the region. In 2010, PPG hosted and sponsored a “PPG Eco-Life Around You” writing competition for 10 middle schools in Zitong, in which more than 10,000 students participated. In 2011, PPG contributed 20,000 more books to the PPG Care Libraries.

PPG also launched social responsibility programs across China in 2011 for a fourth annual clothing and school-supply donation drive to support children in Yushu County, Qinghai Province, for an open-to-public day event and the establishment of an environment classroom in Tianjin, and for a scholarship program established 9 years ago that now includes 11 Chinese universities.
