PPG Industries Buys Champion Coatings Assets

Houston-based Champion Coatings manufactures high-performance coatings for the rail, marine and overland industries, with a staff of 35.





The acquired assets include inventory, accounts receivable, selected equipment, brand names, formulations and a customer database. Champion's Houston plant will not be acquired by PPG, but will continue to manufacture Champion products for PPG for the foreseeable future.



Pittsburgh-based PPG Industries (NYSE: PPG) made a similar acquisition in 2006 by adding Ameron's performance coatings and finishes business to boost its presence in the protective and marine coatings market.
