Pittsburgh Paints, a brand of PPG Architectural Finishes (PPGAF), has launched a new line of premium interior paints, called Pure Performance paint.

This new paint, which is engineered for use in commercial, institutional and residential markets, is the first premium paint to offer the performance characteristics of traditional premium paints, including durability, hiding and touch-up, together with zero volatile organic compounds (VOC), minimal odor during application and drying and mildew resistance on the paint film.

According to Dick Beuke, vice president, architectural coatings, PPG Industries, Pure Performance paint was designed and tested to cross market segments, allowing paint dealers to stock a single brand that meets the dual requirements for an environmentally friendly product that maintains the strength and durability of traditional premium paint. From a performance standpoint, Pure Performance paint can compete with true premium brands, while meeting the increased demand, especially in the green building market, for a paint that does not emit VOC, Beuke said. In fact, Pure Performance paint is the first and only paint to receive Green Seal's Class A Certification for meeting strict environmental standards.

"Our research and development team has worked hard to formulate a paint that can deliver outstanding performance without the solvents and conventional latex resins found in traditional premium paints," Beuke said. "Pure Performance paint represents a breakthrough in resins technology because it utilizes unique polymer emulsions. This enhances water resistance, improves durability and allows the paint to self-coalesce when drying, eliminating the need for VOC-laden solvents in the paint."

Because of its low odor and lack of VOC emissions, Pure Performance paint is ideal for "occupied space" applications, such as hospitals and health care centers, retirement homes, schools, restaurants and retail facilities, hotels, motels, homes, businesses and public places.

Pure Performance interior latex paint is available in primer/sealer, flat, eggshell, and semi-gloss and can be tinted to all 1,890 colors in Pittsburgh Paints' Voice of Color Design Collection.
