NSG Group is proud to announce its participation as a founding member of ResponsibleGlass, a newly established global initiative promoting sustainability in the glass industry.

The Group is the first flat glass manufacturer to join this multi-stakeholder, non-profit organization based in the UK.

ResponsibleGlass aims to establish the first comprehensive international standards for responsibly produced glass across the entire value chain, enhancing transparency and accelerating the transition to sustainable practices.

The standards will cover key environmental aspects including carbon reduction, recycling, waste management, water resources, and biodiversity, as well as social aspects including health and safety, human rights, and ethics and compliance. Its working groups already include a wide range of stakeholders. Together, these members plan to develop the world’s first global standard and certification scheme for glass within the next few years, ensuring that glass contributes positively to both the environment and society.

While global certification schemes already exist for other materials – such as the Forest Stewardship Council for wood and textiles, ResponsibleSteel for steel, and the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative, the glass industry has lacked a comprehensive framework. The creation of the standards for glass will enable consumers and businesses to make informed, responsible choices.

Munehiro Hosonuma, CEO of NSG Group, commented, "We are very excited to join as a founding member of ResponsibleGlass. This initiative represents a significant step toward global standards for responsibly produced glass, advancing sustainability and transparency in line with NSG Group's long-term carbon neutrality commitment."

Francis Sullivan, Chair of ResponsibleGlass, said, "Driving social and environmental change in the glass industry requires an approach which values industry knowledge, social and environmental expertise, openness and a forum where decisions are transparent. We are absolutely delighted to welcome global glass leader, NSG Group – as one of our first mover members. The Group will be a part of our multistakeholder approach which we have already tried and tested in other hard to abate industries – namely, the steel and forests sectors. Glass is all around us. But glass production needs to be sustainable. Together with our members, we are building a new, sustainable vision for glass."

This initiative aligns with NSG Group's medium-term plan, "2030 Vision: Shift the Phase," which is driven by the "4D" strategies including "Decarbonization." NSG Group will continue striving to become vital in advancing a sustainable society.
