Hird has strengthened its powered access hire fleet with the addition of the Niftylift Height Rider 21 Hybrid AWD self-propelled cherry picker.

The boom, known more simply as the Niftylift HR21 AWD is one of a new generation of cherry pickers that are both environmentally-conscious and extremely versatile. It has a bi-energy power system, so it can be powered by a super-efficient diesel engine for external use, or by electricity, which is ideal for internal working at height operations. The AWD stands for all wheel drive, which means it delivers outstanding and sure-footed performance across uneven terrain.HR21 AWD – the key performance factsThis cherry picker is a thoroughly up-to-date machine, with industry-leading performance.Highlights include:

  • A maximum working height of 20.8 metres

  • Unrestricted working outreach at 225 kg of 12.8 metres

  • 40 per cent grade-ability, thanks to being all wheel drive

  • Gross vehicle weight of 6,500 kg, which is lightest in class

  • Great manoeuvrability, with a 4m outside turning radius

  • Award-winning safety features as standard (see below)

Hybrid power delivers ultimate flexibility

The HR21 Hybrid AWD cherry picker has a clever power system so it can use both diesel and electric energy to optimise performance.

For working at height outside, you can select the diesel power, but the hybrid system can still make use of the articulated cherry picker’s electric motor when extra oomph is needed.

This allows the HR21 Hybrid AWD to operate with a smaller engine, reducing fuel consumption and creating fewer emissions.

Its exhaust purification system then further reduces CO and NOx emissions still further, and cuts noise levels to a minimum.

The HR21 Hybrid AWD self-propelled articulated access platform can also be operated on battery power alone. This makes it ideal for indoor work, and quiet or clean applications.

The cherry picker’s diesel regeneration system recharges the batteries without a mains power source. A fast charge is achieved whenever the machine’s engine is left running in idle.

Award-winning MEWP safety systems as standard

Our new HR21 Hybrid AWD has two health and safety systems developed by Niftylift.

The first is the ToughCage, which is the cherry picker’s platform. This incorporates a super-strong platform cage which provides extra protection and durability.

This provides additional protection for the operator and reduces the risk of damage to the platform.

The second is Niftylift’s award-winning SiOPS® safety system. This is a secondary guarding system with eliminates sustained involuntary operation by instantly stopping machine movement if the operator is pushed onto the control console.

Its tough impact resistant composite base and larger cross-section steel cage give extra strength and durability, both protecting the operator and reducing the risk of damage to the cage.
