Sussex-based IGU manufacturer MTM Units recently decided to upgrade its gas filling capability thanks to an increase in demand for its specialist double glazed sealed units.

In line with its ethos of high quality and standards, the company turned to the experts and decided upon a Smartfill-2 machine, complete with data logging and printing, from leading supplier of gas filling solutions, Inagas.

The Smartfill-2 is an Argon gas filling machine with 250mm touch screen functionality, and the latest technology to enhance control and improve productivity. It is supplied with the Smart Start filling lance which provides the operative with control, without having to return to the machine. Capable of 30 litres per line per minute, the machine is designed for dual line production and - importantly for MTM Units, as one of the first glazing companies on the south coast to receive a BSI certificate for quality control – it is available with data logging and printing as an option. After every gas fill cycle the time, date, gas-filling percentage, overfill cycle, IG number, line number and filling time can be recorded and stored in the Smartfill’s memory, ready to be downloaded via a USB stick and transferred to an Excel file. As well as recording this data, an IG label can be printed showing the same information.

Garrie Crowhurst, Director at MTM Units comments: “We decided to upgrade our gas filling machine due to the volume of work we have been doing in this area, so we wanted something which would be simple to use and in keeping with our state of the art facility. The Smartfill-2 is much easier to operate than the machine we used previously, and the data logging option has been particularly beneficial for us to help ensure traceability of all units we manufacture. We chose to partner with Inagas because they are the experts in gas filling solutions. It is at the heart of what they do, rather than an ancillary service and we are delighted both with the machine itself and the levels of support we have received.”
