Forté, based in Massachusetts, USA, is a leading supplier of moisture measurement systems having more than 50 years experience in various industries. They have established a sales and service base in Shanghai and have supplied several other systems in textile applications such as wool and viscose fiber.Forté Technology, Inc. has supplied their moisture measurement technology to several leading glass fiber roving manufacturers for more than 30 years. Some of their well known fiberglass customers are using systems in multiple plant sites. Forté Technology, Inc. uses a nondestructive dielectric measuring principle to measure moisture. With this technology, instantaneous moisture measurements can be made near or beside where the trolleys of roving packages are located being removed from the oven. If a wet roving is measured, immediate action can be taken (such as checking the oven or the winder if the mill makes soft packages for microwave drying). Most mills who produce rovings use the Forte System to find rovings that have wet center areas. It helps the mill be a reliable supplier by reducing their customers chances of facing costly problems related to moisture.” The Forte Series 7000 is normally used on a "Go/No Go" basis. It is a lab-type unit but is rugged enough to put on the production floor. Sample rovings are taken off the trolley and put into the Forte test cell.Correlating the Forte Index Number with the wettest allowable package helps the mill identify rovings that will not meet the end users specifications. Because of the ability to measure the rovings instantaneously, a much higher percentage of product may be controlled. It cannot directly replace the oven test in terms of accuracy, but it is much more effective in controlling production and eliminating losses and costly claims.
