CLEVELAND, Mar 31, 2010 (BUSINESS WIRE) --Ferro Corporation (NYSE:FOE) announced today that the Company has received a 2010 Responsible Care Performance Award from the American Chemistry Council (ACC).

Responsible Care is ACC's commitment to sustainability. Ferro is one of 10 companies to receive this award out of the 138 member companies in the Responsible Care Program. To qualify, a member company had to be making progress toward the ACC Board approved set of goals and targets:

5% reduction in OSHA incident rate for 2009;
20% reduction in average lost work day rate over 5 years;
No fatalities;
18% reduction in greenhouse gas intensity over 1990 levels by 2010; and
Product Stewardship summaries available for 100% of high priority chemicals.

"The fact that only 10 of 138 ACC members won the award shows just how difficult it is to earn it," said Mark Mazanec, Ferro's Director, Environmental, Health & Safety. "The criteria go far beyond safety numbers to include greenhouse gas emissions and Product Stewardship efforts. Ferro has been focused on improving our environmental, health and safety performance over the past several years. This award validates our employees' dedication and the value of the investments and focus we've directed toward EH&S."

"This award reaffirms that the EH&S priorities we established several years ago also apply to Responsible Care," said Ferro President and Chief Executive Office James Kirsch. "We are pleased that ACC recognizes Ferro as a leader for our continuous improvement efforts to safeguard our employees, our communities and the environment."

The Responsible Care Performance Award is a new category in the ACC Awards Program. It will be presented during the 2010 Responsible Care Conference and Expo in Miami, Florida, May 2-5, 2010. The award applies to Ferro's four U.S. chemical plants and their headquarters sites. The plants are located in Bridgeport, New Jersey; Ft. Worth, Texas; Walton Hills, Ohio; and Cleveland, Ohio; and their two headquarters facilities are in Independence, Ohio.
