More than 40 female high school students recently spent the day "shadowing" DuPont employees on the job at several sites in Wilmington, Delaware, as part of "Explore Engineering Day." The teenagers got a chance to learn about what it is like to be an engineer, as well learn about other science- and math-related careers.

The program, designed to encourage more women to pursue careers in science and engineering, was part of the National Engineers Week celebration at DuPont.

DuPont was a co-chair of the 2002 National Engineers Week, which ran from February 17 - 23.

On "Explore Engineering Day" at DuPont, the students attended demonstrations on electron microscopy, high-speed photography, extracting DNA and other topics.

LaShawanda Lands, program coordinator for Explore Engineering Day, said: "Thanks goes to all of the DuPont engineers and scientists that helped plan this event, hosted students and/or lead tour demonstrations. A special thanks goes to Jim Porter, vice president of Engineering and Operations, for his continued financial support."
