Douglas B. Atkinson has been named vice president, investor relations, for PPG Industries. Atkinson joined PPG in 1964 at the Barberton, Ohio, chemicals plant, where he held engineering and operations assignments.

In 1975 he joined the corporate development department in business analysis and strategic planning assignments, and then was corporate economist. Atkinson was named director of global finance in 1988 and director of investor relations in 1991.

A native of Indianapolis, Atkinson, 59, received a degree in civil engineering from Purdue University and a master's degree in business administration from the University of Akron.
