Which glass

I'm building three display cabinets. the ends and bypass doors will be tempered glass. I'm undecided on the shelves they will set into oak frame the size will 15x25 should they be tempered or will untempered glass work? The client will be displaying mounted birds.

thanks, Mike

Alpha/ Beta phase of Nickel Sulphide

Spontaneous breakage of tempered glass may be due to the Nickel Sulphide inclusion changing from a high temperature phase( alpha) to a low temperature phase(beta).

Is there a temperature range defining the alpha phase and beta phase? I think 600 degC can probably achieve alpha phase and 290 degC can already achieve beta phase? How do u think?

many thx

Auto vin marking

I am looking for a glass marking tool that puts the VIN number on auto glass like they do on some Toyotas. I don't want the acid etching cream or the sandblasting type. What im looking for is very different, it almost looks like it is engraved. I am asked from time to time to replace a VIN number on a car and when the other windows already have this type of marking there I can't use the ecth cream vecause its looks so different. I have searched everwhere I know but have come up empty. Please help Gary.

High temperature evaporant for glass

I'm looking for material, which I can use for glass cutting/polishing process. The problem is: after polishing of polycapillary, its pores (channels) became blocked by glass dust. I'm planning to fill channels with some material to prevent its blocking and remove this material after machining. But ID of capillaries too small (5-20 microns). I suggest that I have to use high evaporative at high temperature (>100C) material to get clean inner channel surface after evaporation process. Does anybode know suitable non-toxic filling material?
