Vision Control® helps ensure thermal performance for Morgan State’s new Center for the Built Environment and Infrastructure StudiesMontreal, Canada (PRWEB) February 28, 2012Unicel Architectural, the leading manufacturer of vision and daylight control solutions, today announced the completion of a project that incorporates its Vision Control® insulating glass units (IGUs) with integrated cord-free louvers into Morgan State University’s new Center for the Built Environment and Infrastructure Studies (CBEIS) - a 126,000 square foot shared facility for academic, engineering and design programs.

The CBEIS includes four levels of educational rooms, a green roof, a sky-lit atrium and a gallery-like space for displays and social interaction. Morgan State mandated that the new CBEIS facility be at the forefront of sustainable design practices and achieve specific LEED® Certification standards.

“Morgan State’s forward-thinking vision on sustainable design set a high bar for thermal performance,” said Jean-Francois Couturier, CEO of Unicel. “To participate in this industry-leading project, we needed to demonstrate Vision Control’s® technical capabilities regarding visibility, light transmittance, u-values and other thermal performance characteristics to verify LEED® credits. We are proud to be a part of the CBEIS vision for sustainable excellence.”

Architects The Freelon Group, with Hord Coplan Macht, selected Unicel’s Vision Control® based on thermal performance, product life-cycle cost benefits and effective daylighting support. The installation includes 164 triple-glazed Vision Control® sealed glass units at fixed windows and 48 double-glazed Vision Control® sealed glass units at operable windows, and delivers the required u-values to achieve LEED® Gold Certification. Vision Control® is expected to help decrease the building’s operational costs and offer substantial savings over the life of the product.

Project participants included construction manager the Barton Malow Company and glazing sub-contractor Zephyr Aluminum. The CBEIS project is now completed and due for occupation at the end of 2012.
