Spectra-Physics Debuts High Pulse Energy UV Lasers with Disruptive Cost-Performance

Date: 18 June 2015

New Talon® HE and Talon lasers total 8 interchangeable models for broad process capability – Spectra-Physics® introduces Talon® HE, a new line of high energy UV and green Q-switched diode-pumped solid-state (DPSS) lasers.

Delivering high pulse energies up to >500 µJ at 355 nm and 1000 µJ at 532 nm, the new lasers are identical in footprint and interfaces with the highly successful Talon family of lasers for flexible machine tools with broad capability. With disruptive cost-performance, Talon HE is ideal for a wide range of manufacturing applications including PC board via drilling and cutting, semiconductor scribing and dicing, and flat panel display processing.

“Talon HE builds on the incredible success of the Talon family in transforming 24/7 manufacturing with a highly compelling combination of proven reliability and disruptive cost-performance,” says Scott White, director of product marketing for Spectra-Physics. “With a total of 8 completely interchangeable models spanning the combined Talon and Talon HE family, customers now have unprecedented flexibility in rapidly configuring their systems for specific end user requirements without system redesign.”

Talon HE is available in three models. Talon HE 355-500 outputs >500 µJ UV pulse energy and long pulse widths at 20 kHz repetition rate, while Talon HE 355-275 delivers >275 µJ UV at 40 kHz. Talon HE 532-1000 provides 1 mJ green output at 15 kHz repetition rate. The laser’s “It’s in the Box™” design combines power supply and laser head into a single, common rugged package for simple integration into machine tools and straightforward switching between models for specific process and opportunity requirements. Talon and Talon HE family have passed extensive environmental qualification testing, and each laser is subjected to rigorous production tests to ensure high reliability for operation in 24/7 applications and lowest cost of ownership.

Spectra-Physics’ new Talon HE lasers will be featured at Laser World of Photonics, Messe München, Munich, Germany, June 22-25, 2015. Please visit Spectra-Physics at hall A2, booth 307 for a live demonstration. For more information, please see www.spectra-physics.com/talon-he.
