Cambridgeshire-based Trade fabricator, Tradelink, has recently switched to Saint-Gobain Glass as its sole low-e glass provider, a move that immediately lifts its standard energy rated window from a C to a B.

Previously, the company’s standard window achieved a C rating using low-e glass from another glass supplier.By simply switching to SGG PLANITHERM TOTAL glass, the window automatically achieves a B rating, which Tradelink will now offer as standard.

Saint-Gobain Glass will also supply its extra-clear low-iron glass, SGG DIAMANT, which, forming part of Tradelink’s Heatguard Thermal (Th)® units, will push the window rating up to an A.

“SGG PLANITHERM TOTAL was an obvious choice for Tradelink because it allowed us to achieve two of the main product objectives we set ourselves for 2009,” explained Jim Moody, Managing Director of Tradelink Direct Ltd. “Firstly to further develop our Heatguard plus® units – with minimal increase in our material costs – to enable us to offer a ‘B’ energy rated window as standard. Secondly to develop our Heatguard Thermal (Th)® units, to provide a competitive ‘A’ rated window. Our capital investment programme has allowed us to absorb any additional processes with nil effect to productivity, waste and output. We have in fact seen an improvement in product quality resulting in high customer confidence and a total buy-in, without exception, to the new products.”

Susan Lambeth, Saint-Gobain Glass’s Senior Product Manager, explained why SGG PLANITHERM TOTAL is the first choice for window fabricators when it comes to achieving ‘A’ ratings for windows: “SGG PLANITHERM TOTAL has a unique coating which reflects heat back into the room rather allowing it to escape. This coating also allows heat generated by the sun to pass through, allowing the room to be heated for free – even in the winter!

“Therefore, windows made with SGG PLANITHERM TOTAL make rooms more comfortable, save the homeowner money, and protect the environment because less energy is produced, which cuts down on CO2 emissions.”

Tradelink was established in 1992, and has grown its business on the back of providing the industry market-leading products. It currently supplies to the home improvement sector and new-build, but has begun supplying windows to the commercial sector.

Forever looking at ways to make the company as lean as possible, Tradelink joined Saint-Gobain Glass’s cullet collection in 2007, a service that now ensures that 30% of the glass produced at the SGG Eggborough float plant is recycled material. This means the Tradelink gets paid for material that it would normally pay to go to landfill.

The scheme also reduces the number of lorries on the road; because Saint-Gobain backloads lorries with cullet, there is less demand for raw material, meaning fewer lorries. Last year, one million road miles were saved this way alone. “We recognise Saint Gobain’s cullet system as the best recycling scheme in the industry and have used this service for over two years now. It’s reliable and well managed which allows us to maximise our own recycling objectives. With the sole purchase of Saint Gobain products we can now achieve full circle recycling,” concluded Jim.
