Hammond – nicknamed ‘The Hamster’ by his Top Gear colleagues – was filming for the new series due to be screened in the autumn.School children from Eggborough Primary School were invited along to meet the presenter and help him to leave a memento of his visit by planting a tree, part of Saint-Gobain Glass’s programme to plant a tree for every 10 tonnes of the company’s annual landfill waste reduced. Richard and the children planted the 21st tree, marking a huge reduction in the waste reduction targets for the Eggborough site.
Susan Lambeth, Senior Product Manager for Saint-Gobain Glass who assisted with the filming, said that Hammond’s visit delighted children and staff: “Richard was really nice and especially great with the kids. It was a fascinating day and we look forward to seeing the episode of Engineering Connections in the autumn, but we are sworn to secrecy about the demo so watch this space!
