Gold anniversary of SOLARBAN glass to be highlighted – PPG Industries (NYSE:PPG) will showcase SOLARBAN® 67 glass and INTERCEPT® Ultra and Intercept Blackline spacers at GlassBuild America, the Glass, Window and Door Expo, Sept. 9-11 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

The company also will recognize the 50th anniversary of Solarban glass, which has become an industry standard for commercial and residential glass performance, and display a sample of a low-emissivity (low-e) glass that is in development."Arial">Formulated with a proprietary double-silver, magnetron-sputtered vacuum deposition (MSVD) coating, Solarban 67 glass combines excellent solar control performance and a brilliantly clear neutral-glass appearance that reflects the true timbre and brightness of ambient light and color.

In a standard 3/4-inch insulating glass unit (IGU) with clear glass and 1/2-inch air space, Solarban 67 glass provides visible light transmittance (VLT) of 55 percent and a solar heat gain coefficient (SHGC) of 0.29. The glass also has exterior reflectance of 19 percent, which enhances its ability to reflect true-to-life color, and interior reflectance of 16 percent, which provides excellent outdoor views and a comfortable living environment for homeowners.

Intercept Ultra and Intercept Blackline spacers are advanced versions of one of the window industry’s most popular and trusted insulating-unit technologies. In addition to offering superior performance, Intercept Blackline spacers offer unobstructed outdoor views by fitting neatly beneath window sightlines. Since being introduced in 1992, Intercept spacers have been incorporated into more than half of the residential windows manufactured in the U.S.

PPG also will continue the gold-anniversary celebration of Solarban glass. These products preceded today’s green building movement 50 years ago by being one of the first coated glasses to reflect heat away from homes and buildings to improve occupant comfort and reduce utility expenses related to HVAC (heating, ventilation and air-conditioning) systems.

Since that time, the Solarban family of products has been continually expanded and refined to meet the aesthetic and energy-efficiency demands of today’s homeowners and window manufacturers.
