It addresses designers and manufacturers of all kinds of innovative products used in the window and facade sector. The architectural and design competition was initiated with the intention of awarding a prize to those products, which to some special degree meet the requirements of architects, thereby making a selection from the numerous building solutions on the market. Important criteria for judgement are functional and design quality, material authenticity and variety of possible uses.
The response to the innovation award was good and came from various industries: The 22 submitted products included facade systems, solar shading and windows. A jury of five renowned architects had to decide upon the architectural quality of the submissions. The jury members were Sonja Atabaki , Architektin (Grohe Deutschland Vertriebs GmbH), Peter Glöckner, Architekt (peter glöckner architektur, Munich), Volker Vogel, Architekt (STEAM ARCHITEKTEN, Düsseldorf), Alexander Patt, Architekt (Henn GmbH Architekten, Munich) und Florian Schmidhuber (Ochs Schmidhuber Architekten, Munich). They awarded a total of 2 prizes in the category products for high architectural quality.
The Innovation Award Architecture Window and Facade was awarded as 1st prize to
Erst Schweizer AG, Metallbau, Möhlin, Swiss for „Photovoltaik Schiebeladen“
Further an Innovation Award as Mention was given to:
Fenster Gegg GmbH, Haslach, Deutschland für „revo Ganzglas“
During the presentation of awards on Wednesday, March 24th, 2010, at 5 p.m. (Foyer CCN Ost, of the NürnbergMesse) the public could gather information on the quality of the submitted products. Additionally, all participating products were presented in a special exhibition over the duration of the fensterbau/frontale trade fair and will subsequently be published in a special publication of the xia IntelligenteArchitektur and AIT journals.
The third Innovation Award Architecture Window and Facade was initiated by the AIT and xia IntelligenteArchitektur journals. Innovation competitions for the lighting, flooring, office furniture, sanitation system and HVAC industry as well as the building and construction industry have previously taken place - on the respective trade fairs Light & Building, ISH and Heimtextil in Frankfurt, Domotex in Hanover, Orgatec in Cologne, Deubau in Essen, BAU in Munich, Bautec in Berlin, EuroShop in Düsseldorf, Alten- und Propflege in Hanover and Nuremberg.
