PPG Industries (NYSE: PPG) will display SOLARBAN(R) 72 STARPHIRE(R) glass and several other industry-leading products during GlassBuild America 2011: The Glass, Window & Door Expo, at booth 1201 in the Georgia World Congress Center, Atlanta, Sept. 12-14.

Designed for exceptional transparency, Solarban 72 Starphire glass (left) has visible light transmittance of 71 percent that is comparable to Solarban 60 Starphire glass (right), yet offers 25 percent better solar control. Solarban 72 Starphire glass is one of several new products that PPG will display at booth 1201 at GlassBuild America 2011 in Atlanta, Sept. 12-14.

The booth will feature Solarban 72 Starphire glass, which is a solar control, low-emissivity (low-e) glass designed to provide high visible light transmittance (VLT), exceptional clarity and superior solar control performance. In a standard 1-inch insulating glass unit (IGU), it offers VLT approximating that of Solarban 60 Starphire glass along with 25 percent better solar control. Solarban 72 Starphire glass also has solar control characteristics that are similar to those of Solarban 70XL glass, the industry’s first triple-silver-coated, solar control, low-e glass, but it transmits 11 percent more natural light.

PPG also will distribute a new 24-page white paper comparing the energy and environmental performance of Solarban R100 glass to three other leading neutral-reflective, low-e glasses. Based on a proprietary hybrid coating technology, Solarban R100 glass has VLT of 42 percent and a solar heat gain coefficient (SHGC) of 0.23. The resulting 1.79 light-to-solar gain (LSG) ratio is up to 29 percent greater than that of competing neutral-reflective, solar control, low-e glasses.

A display in the PPG booth will highlight technology that helps dual-pane residential IGUs to achieve R-5 center-of-glass performance. The PPG dual-coat technology incorporates one pane of 3-millimeter Solarban 70XL glass on the second (#2) surface of an IGU and one 3-millimeter pane of SUNGATE(R) 500 glass on the fourth (#4) surface, separated by 0.5-inch of argon-filled space. The configuration generates a winter nighttime U-value of 0.20 at the center of the glass, providing insulating performance that is better than or equal to any competing dual-pane IGU on the market.

Additionally, visitors to the PPG booth can view test samples comparing the durability and performance of CLARVISTA(TM) shower glass to other shower glass products. Because Clarvista glass is made with a coating that seals the glass surface, it can, with regular maintenance, retain its new appearance longer than can competing shower glass products. When combined with Starphire glass by PPG, Clarvista glass is the most transparent shower glass in the industry, which makes it ideal for upscale homes, resorts and commercial spas.
