Plymouth-based Union Glass, a leading force in the Southwest’s glazing industry, has announced the acquisition of Armada Glass and Glazing — one of the region’s most respected names in bespoke interior glass design.

The move marks a significant step in Union Glass’s growth strategy, expanding both its creative offering and operational reach across residential and commercial sectors.

This strategic acquisition comes on the heels of Union Glass’s recent £1.2 million investment in a purpose-built facility, alongside the successful growth of its steel fabrication division. With future business plans that include exploring new services, such as aluminium commercial windows and curtain walling, the business continues to position itself as a forward-thinking leader in glass and glazing solutions.

Founded in 2003 and initially based in Saltash, Armada Glass and Glazing has earned a reputation for creative innovation in digitally printed splashbacks, fused glass art, and decorative finishes. The company was also the first in the UK to install the Intermac Master One CNC machine — a state-ofthe-art piece of equipment that will now complement Union Glass’s extensive range of specialist machinery.

“Armada brings something truly special to the group,” says Nigel Brown, Operations Director at Union Glass. “Their design-led approach and dedication to craftsmanship are second to none. By combining our strengths, we’re creating a more innovative, more responsive company that’s ready to support clients from concept to completion.”

Armada Glass and Glazing will retain its name and identity under the new structure and continue to lead in the design of creative interior glasswork. Its work will be supported by Union Glass’s enhanced fabrication capacity, logistics infrastructure, and technical expertise, ensuring greater flexibility, faster lead times, and the same artisan quality customers have come to expect. During the initial transition period, Armada will continue operating from its current premises, with plans to relocate to Union Glass’s new headquarters in the coming months. There will be no disruption to customer service and day-to-day operations.

“Becoming part of Union Glass is a natural progression for Armada Glass,” said Tony Burke and Mark Andrews, founders of Armada Glass & Glazing. “It’s exciting to see a strong future for the company, with plenty of creative potential ahead.”

Union Glass, which now operates a combined fleet of nine specialist glass and steel-carrying vehicles, is bolstering its position as a full-service glazing partner for the Southwest with the integration of Armada Glass. Nigel Brown says, “It’s about complementing one another, our fabrication and installation capacity supports Armada’s artisan skillset, ensuring designers and specifiers don’t have to choose between creativity and commercial feasibility”.

The acquisition positions Union Glass to honour Armada Glass and Glazing’s creative heritage while expanding its capabilities and broadening its service portfolio.

“We’re growing with purpose,” concludes Nigel Brown. “This partnership allows us to offer more, more design options, more capacity, and more innovation — all while staying grounded in quality and craftsmanship. Together, Union Glass and Armada Glass are shaping a stronger, more creative future for the industry.”
