New Product: Okalux Light Diffusing Glass Used In Artists Studio

Date: 14 December 2015

Cantifix is pleased to now be able to offer Okalux light diffusing glass across the majority of the range.*  Okalux is a company who has ‘dedicated itself to the utilisation of daylight’ – and its beautiful and highly efficient glass panels offer a multitude of benefits, including excellent sun and glare control, impressive heat insulation properties and UV protection.David Panton of Acme Studios (a London-based charity which provides affordable artists studio space) chose to use Okalux glass in his 2014 Cantifix project – and said the following…“The property is owned by a Swiss Foundation who believe in good quality for their clients, who come to the UK to have the best experience.

The room we were refurbishing did not have much thermal control, therefore when the opportunity arose to change this we decided to use Okalux. It made life easier in terms of the temperature, and the translucent material within the glass removed any excessive direct sunlight entering the room. The Cantifix fitting team were good and completed the project to a high standard”.

The project involved fitting a glass roof to an artists’ studio in Whitechapel, and made great use of Okalux glass to create the perfect working light for the artists.

The Okalux glass panels contain countless little translucent or white capillary tubes in the cavities – which break up the incident daylight and diffuse it throughout the interior. These capillary tubes also work like little air cushions – preventing the convection of air in the cavity and therefore reducing thermal radiation from the sun and improving u values. The transmission values of the glass can even be individually adjusted to suit the requirements of your building!

Okalux glass panels also offer excellent light diffusing properties – illuminating rooms evenly without hard shadows. The capillary structures transmit all wavelengths of visible light, meaning that the entire colour spectrum can be accurately perceived – perfect for projects such as the artists studio mentioned above. The glass also provides privacy for the building’s occupants, and creates a beautiful glow around the building when viewed from the outside at night.
