Glass Recycling Campaign To Target Northern Pubs And Clubs

Date: 22 March 2007

A new campaign will next month urge pubs, clubs and restaurants in northern England to start recycling their glass bottles.

The "Have You Got the Bottle?" campaign is being led by development organisations Recycling Action Yorkshire (RAY), Envirolink and Renew Tees Valley, and will be launched in April.

It will aim to get the recycling message out to 17,000 licensed retail establishments in more than 30 towns and cities across the region.

The campaign, sponsored by WRAP, aims to divert some of the 600,000 tonnes of waste glass currently going to landfill in the UK.

The three lead organisations held a seminar in Wakefield, Yorkshire, last month where 15 recycling organisations and local authorities pledged support for the programme.

But the campaign organisers are still interested in any other organisations in the glass recycling sector that might want to take part in the scheme.
