Viridor, one of the UK’s largest recycling and renewable energy companies, has boosted its expert senior UK team with the addition of a new director leading its sustainability, safety, health, environment and quality functions.

Viridor will welcome Mr Inder S Poonaji on 1 September 2015 when he officially takes up his position as Director of Sustainability and Safety, Health, Environment and Quality (SHEQ).Recognised as a leader in his field of sustainability and change management, Mr Poonaji joins the company following seven years working with Nestle – the world’s leading nutrition, health and wellness company – where he was Head of Sustainability, leading 8,000 staff across 18 UK sites and working internationally prior to that.In his new role he will be responsible for developing and implementing strategies and policies to meet the highest possible safety, health, environmental and quality standards across the company and to ensure sustainability is at the forefront of all business decisions.He will also lead a major change management programme to achieve these objectives.

Speaking of his appointment, Mr Poonaji said:

Set to be a key member of Viridor’s Executive Management Team, Mr Poonaji will be responsible for driving sustainability, safety, environment and quality across the business employing 3,000 staff over 329 sites. In addition to his main job, he will continue to guest lecture Surrey University, other universities and maintain his voluntary work.

Mr Poonaji holds a Masters in International HR; BA HONS Political Economy; Post Graduate Diploma in Sustainability, Certificate in Education, Post Graduate in Training Strategy as well as a number of additional professional qualifications.
