Fire safety glass manufacturer CGI has installed a laminate cutting table and re-configured the 30,000 sq ft factory’s cutting area to improve efficiency and material flow.Jonathan Taylor, production manager at CGI said: “We’re continually investing in our facilities and this latest project was prompted by a heightened demand for bespoke cut-to-size glass.By purchasing the new table and revisiting how we use our production space we’re now much more equipped to meet those demands.
“We’ve been able to raise our output of finished cut-to size-glass pieces four-fold for 7mm Pyroguard and the new set-up dovetails well with our existing manual cutting operation. We’re now able to provide different shapes and sizes to be available within short lead times and overall, will double our output capability.”
Steve Goodburn, CGI’s sales director added: “We’ve already started seeing signs that the economy is turning a corner and it’s continued investment in our processes and equipment that will allow us to capitalise on the upturn when it comes.
“In particular, the new cutting table opens up the projects market and positions us as a one-stop-shop for our fire safety glass product range and our processing capabilities too.”
CGI supplies a full range of fire safety glasses including: integrity only (E), integrity and insulating glass (EI) and integrity and radiation control glass (EW).
CGI International supplies the widest range of fire glasses in the world and has tripled sales in the past decade. Around 60 per cent of the company’s glass is exported to countries such as Holland, Ireland, France, Spain, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Australia, China, Dubai, the USA and Turkey.
