The event will be hosted in Bundaberg, Queensland at a site operated by Earth Commodities and will take place over three days from 21st to 23rd July.Visitors to the event will be given the opportunity to see the plant in action as well as meet with members of the CDE team in Australia and members of the team who are travelling to Australia for the event.
“This is the second demonstration event we have hosted in Australia following a similar event at Tooperang Quarry, Adelaide in December 2013 where we have also installed a glass sand washing plant” explains Terry Ashby, CDE Regional Director, Australia. “The first plant supplies glass sands to the Owens Illinois (O-I) wine bottle production facility in Adelaide and it was the success of this project that provided the basis for us being awarded the contract with Earth Commodities in Bundaberg.”
After completion of the project at Tooperang Quarry CDE were awarded preferred supplier status with O-I to support future sand processing requirements and at the time David Abela, Procurement Director, O-I said “The achievement of a consistent sand specification at Tooperang Quarry in accordance with our requirements proves CDE’s silica sand processing capabilities. CDE also delivered this project in a very professional manner through its project management system and it is forthis reason that we will continue to work with CDE to investigate glass sand supply opportunities in other parts of Australia.”
The award of the contract for the Earth Commodities plant was a direct result of this new relationship with Owens Illinois and the plant includes a wide range of equipment from the CDE product portfolio. This includes the M2500 mobile washing plant with integrated CFCU (Counter Flow Classification Unit), high frequency screens, EvoWash sand washing plant, spirals, attrition cells and a variety of transfer and stockpile conveyors.
Speaking about the new installation, Darren Wardle of Earth Commodities said,
“To date we have been very pleased with the introduction of the new CDE plant, and we have been very pleased with the professional manner in which the CDE personnel have delivered this project overall. The plant itself is now producing seven products in one pass at an in feed rate of approximately 130 tonnes per hour which is exactly what we set out to achieve. The specification of all products delivered through the plant are meeting the required targets that we put forth to CDE in the design phase of the project and we have now begun to service our market with these new products with market feedback to date being positive all round.”
“The real upshot here for our business however is efficiency, we are currently utilizing the same number of employees to run the new CDE plant as we were previously to run the old plant at 25 tonnes per hour with three product splits. That along with the ability to target new markets on and offshore as well as service our existing contracts puts our business in a positive space moving forward.”
“On the whole we are very excited about our future with this new plant.”

This is echoed by Terry Ashby who says “A key theme that runs throughout the development of our modular equipment range is that the move to modular must be achieved with no compromise on the capability or performance of the individual machines. All of our conveyors, screens, dewatering screens, logwashers that we have integrated onto the M2500, M4500, EvoWash and AggMax are the same machines as would feature on a static wash plant to ensure that plant performance is maintained in the most efficient way possible.”
The demonstration event at Earth Commodities in July follows on from similar events in Germany and Brazil and additional events are planned for Norway, France and UK in the coming months. Further details of the full event schedule is available here.
