Help! Glass Table Top Explosion

I need your help to determine what could have caused my dinning glass table top to explode.

About 1.5 months ago, I went on an overseas trip. While there, I received a call from a friend who was regularly checking my apartment to report that my dinning glass table top had exploded with no apparent cause.

I have looked at photographs of the scene, and indeed the table top exploded into a million little safety pieces less than 1 cm in diameter. The damage to the table base, chairs, walls, and floor has been extensive, and has been valuated in the thousands of dollars.

URGENT!!! I Need Properties of Glass

I am doing a chemistry research project on different types of insulation. Fiberglass is one of the factors. As of now the experiment is leaning more in the physics direction and I need to know what kind of glass is used in fiberglass insulation and what makes it a good component for an insulator. I read the article about types of glass and the three main types, but I'm not sure which category this type would land under, if any. If you could please reply as soon as possible it would be much appreciated. Any information will help. Thank you.

Scratch removel weakens glass Strength

I would like to know more about this and find out if the glass is weaker than what was glazed (eg) if we glazed 10mm toughened then the glass gets scratched and a company removes the scratchs the glass is not only distorted but the glass is now thinner is the glass going to comply with the standards for that country (NZ)as a glazier i feel that the job would not meet the standard also buffing the glass surface would be cutting into the integrity of the glass.

Deflection of aquarium glass

Hi all,

This is my first posting to this Forum.

I'm currently designing an all glass aquarium, and would appreciate any input from the resident experts.

The aquarium will measure 1.80m (length) x 0.72m (width) x 0.65m (water height). I have just completed the construction of a reinforced concrete stand, and a load test has shown a mid span deflection of 0.8mm with a load of 940kg.

I will be building the tank from 12mm thick normal float glass.
