The Window Company Makes Glass Charter Progress

Date: 3 August 2016

The Glass and Glazing Federation (GGF) is pleased to announce that The Window Company (Contracts) Ltd has successfully attained Silver Level 2 in the Glass Charter scheme.

At July’s GGF Joint Window and Door Group and Conservatory Association meeting in Solihull, Phil Pinnington, GGF Health, Safety and Facilities Manager awarded the Glass Charter Certificate to David Thornton, Chairman of The Window Company (Contracts) Ltd.David commented, “Being awarded The Glass Charter at Silver Level 2 was a real achievement for all the Window Company (Contracts) staff. It followed a rigorous inspection process which is just how it should be.

One of the good things about the process is it doesn’t matter what level you achieve first time around because the guidance and information is there to help you achieve a higher level.

The highest award is the Gold level and at the Window Company (Contracts) we are all working to achieve this because we know we can and Health and Safety matters!”

Phil Pinnington concluded, “The quality of evidence provided by The Window Company supports our belief that our Members are Health and Safety conscious and are actively looking to improve their health and safety standards.

On behalf of the GGF I congratulate David and his staff on attaining Silver Level 2. I hope many other companies in the industry can follow The Window Company’s lead and improve the health and safety in the working environment for their employees, suppliers and visitors to their premises.”

The GGF Glass Charter was instigated in 2001 when the glass industry took up the Government’s Revitalising Health and Safety Initiative.  In partnership with both industry and the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) the Glass and Glazing Federation launched the GLASS Charter (Goal; Less Accidents, Safer Sites).

In 2016 the scheme was updated by the GGF in line with the Health and Safety Executive’s (HSE) five year strategy focusing on a pathway to continuous improvement.

If you are already on the GGF GLASS Charter and want to progress please contact the GGF Health and Safety Team or if you have not joined the GGF GLASS Charter but would like more information please contact by e-mail either ppinnington@ggf.org.uk  or mtoone@ggf.org.uk.
