Design professionals have a lower cost alternative for applications requiring stylish, impact-resistant glass in storm prone regions – Pilkington Profilit™ Hurricane LT from Technical Glass Products (TGP).

The heat strengthened and filmed cast-glass channels are designed for applications 30 feet or higher above ground level that require only the Small Missile Impact Test (SMIT). The end result is a channel glass system that provides protection against strong winds and windborne debris without the extra costs associated with meeting large missile impact resistant requirements. www.tgpamerica.com Pilkington Profilit Hurricane LT is the only tested and approved small missile impact-resistant channel glass option in North America. It is tested to ASTM E 1886-06 at +45 PSF and -72 PSF, as well as ASTM E1996-06 for exterior windows impacted by windborne debris in hurricanes. The system can be installed in horizontal and vertical applications, and is dual-glazed for exterior applications. The new hurricane-rated channel glass offering is available in numerous colors, coatings and patterns, including textured and non-textured surfaces to balance the admission of natural light with privacy. Lumira™ aerogel insulation panels can be incorporated within the impact-resistant translucent cast-glass channels to help enhance energy efficiency. For applications below 30 feet with large missile impact resistant requirements, design professionals can select Pilkington Profilit Hurricane channel glass.
