ST. LOUIS, Nov. 17, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Solutia Inc. (NYSE: SOA), a global leader in performance materials and specialty chemicals, has been awarded three Product Innovation Awards for its EnerLogic® window film series from Architectural Products Magazine.

EnerLogic low-e window film features a patent-pending, low-e coating, which adds up to 92 percent(1) more insulating power to existing commercial and residential windows – improving energy efficiency in every season.  EnerLogic window film was recognized for its product excellence in the following categories:  Solar Control Protection, Moisture/Thermal Protection and Windows/Doors/Openings.

"This innovative low-e window film demonstrates our focus on creating exceptional energy-efficient products that support the responsible use of natural resources," noted Craig Ivey, president and general manager of Solutia's Performance Films division.  "As demand for energy-efficient products continues to increase, we look forward to providing customers with a broader range of EnerLogic window film product solutions in the near term."

The Architectural Products Product Innovation Awards (PIA) recognizes products, materials and systems innovation that leads commercial and institutional design to new heights. With judging and evaluation of products and systems from a distinguished panel of 44 architects and specification specialists skilled in product evaluation, the PIA program awards manufacturers based on attributes, qualities, functionality and/or performance beyond industry standards.

Solutia's commitment to energy savings and sustainability is a 25 percent reduction in the amount of greenhouse gas (GHG) that it produces per unit of production by the year 2020.  To assist with achieving this goal, Solutia recently completed a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) by Harmony Environmental, LLC, and had it reviewed by an independent third party. The results from the recently completed study conclude that architectural window film becomes carbon neutral in less than two months after installation.  With an average service life of 15 years, this means that these products are typically providing 14-plus years of greenhouse gas reductions after accounting for the products' total carbon footprint.
