Sisecam Bulgarian unit to manufacture Soccer World Cup promotional glasses

Date: 9 May 2006

The glassware factory in Targovishte owned by Turkish glass and chemicals group Turkey Sise ve Cam Fabrikalari (Sisecam) has been commissioned by FIFA, soccer's world governing body, and soft drinks giant Coca-Cola to manufacture 6 mln promotional glasses for the upcoming World Cup finals in Germany.

The order is part of a larger contract for 15 mln glasses that will involve Sisecam units in other countries.

The Sisecam factory in Targovishte is the third Bulgarian company hired to provide services or products related to a major sporting event. Sanitary ware factory Vidima Ideal was a supplier of the 2004 Athens Olympics while Air Sofia shipped equipment for the Paris-Dakar rally.

The $75 mln household glassware factory was launched in July 2005. It has eight manufacturing lines and a capacity to make 54,000 tons, i.e. 235 mln items annually. They are marketed under the Pasabahci brand.
