SCHOTT Completes Move of Food Display Glass Manufacturing to Indiana to Double Production Capacity

Date: 1 August 2013

SCHOTT Gemtron Corporation recently completed the migration of its food display refrigeration glass production capabilities to Vincennes, Ind. in order to keep pace with growing demand for its display and freezer glass doors, door frames, shelving, and POLARIS® LED lighting.

Now up and running, the 400,000-square-foot facility doubles the division’s previous production capacity and has created 115 new jobs in Vincennes. As part of the move, SCHOTT Gemtron invested in an automated insulated glass manufacturing line that will increase product reliability as well as accelerate and optimize production. This automated line can reduce cycle times by 80 percent, and increases the quality of the insulated glass units produced, exceeding Department of Energy performance criteria.

“Our new facility’s higher capacity, faster output, and increased product reliability allow us to better meet current and future demand for display and freezer glass doors,” said Tim Dye, Business Manager and Director of Sales and Marketing for the food display business at SCHOTT Gemtron. “By doubling the size of our production facility and installing an automated insulated glass line, we’re not only increasing the speed of production, but are also further improving our ability to offer the highest quality glass displays and strengthening customer service.”

The facility is focused on the production of glass display doors, frames, shelving, and Polaris LED lighting for convenience stores, freezer doors and frames for case manufacturers that serve supermarkets, and retrofit doors for multideck cases in supermarkets.
