The home, designed by award-winning architect Mike Rosen, will feature green, sustainable, energy efficient and storm resistant construction

technologies like SageGlass.

SageGlass is electronically tintable glass that can be tinted or cleared to maximize daylighting, support sustainability, and enhance the occupant experience in buildings. SageGlass manages the sunlight and heat that enter a building, improving people’s comfort and reducing a home’s cooling load by up to 20%.  By eliminating the need for shades and blinds, it offers “The First to the Future” home a beautiful and cost-effective way to manage glare and heat while maintaining a connection to the outdoors.

“We are excited to be a part of this new home concept that will be a breakthrough in sustainability,” said Andrew Hulse, vice president of business development at SAGE. “When you’re indoors, it’s nice to maintain a connection to the outdoors. SageGlass provides this connection, enabling the new homeowner to welcome daylight and views into their house without having to endure the glare, excessive heat and high electricity bills.”

Construction of “The First to the Future” home will begin in Florida in Spring 2013 with the reveal in September 2013. SAGE will provide approximately 500 square feet of electrochromic glass to glaze the windows for the project. Pennington will take a “systems approach” to chronicling the project to give both building professionals and home buyers practical choices to consider for their next home.

“It’s a great opportunity to build awareness for the benefits of dynamic glass in the residential market.  SageGlass has been installed in commercial projects for 10 years, but this is a great way to build the SageGlass brand in the residential market as well,” said Derek Malmquist, vice president of marketing for SAGE.  “SageGlass is a great fit for both commercial and residential applications, and architecturally, economically and environmentally, dynamic glass says a lot about a home builder’s and a homeowner’s values.”
