Lurie Children’s Hospital includes adjustable louvers-within-glass for interior doors and windows

Date: 30 October 2012

MONTREAL, Canada – October 23, 2012 – Unicel Architectural, the award-winning manufacturer of vision and daylight control solutions, today announced the installation of its Vision Control® insulating glass units (IGUs) with integrated cord-free louvers as part of the new 23-story, state-of-the-art Ann & Robert H.

Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago (Lurie Children’s). The new facility includes the latest innovations in medical care, clinical programs, pediatric research and family amenities.
“Patient privacy is a top priority for Lurie Children’s,” said Jean-François Couturier, CEO of Unicel Architectural. “Critically ill children and their families need privacy at a time when they can be at their most vulnerable. The project design team had very exacting requirements for both privacy and hygiene to ensure an optimal healing environment. Working with long-time partner, Alliance Glass + Metal, we are proud to be a part of this industry-leading and progressive healthcare design initiative.”

Architects Zimmer Gunsul Frasca LLP (ZGF), Solomon Cordwell Buenz (SCB) and Anderson Mikos Architects ltd (AMA) employed evidence-based hospital design principles to increase patient safety, speed healing and make patient care more efficient.

“As an Illinois-based company, the Lurie Children’s project is very special to us and to our extended community,” said Dan Shields, Director of Sales at Alliance Glass + Metal, Inc. “Creating a healing environment that puts our children’s needs first only serves to reinforce our drive for excellence in making sure that we have the right team in place. We are pleased to have partnered with Unicel

for the installation of the interior door and partition features that were designed for optimal privacy, hygiene and safety in healthcare facilities.”

Over 500 Vision Control® louvers-within-glass units from Unicel were installed by Alliance Glass & Metal in Lurie Children’s interior doors and partitions to ensure adjustable privacy options for patients and staff. The Vision Control® units eliminate the need for curtains, blinds and other dust-collecting privacy solutions for a hermetically sealed and more hygienic solution. Vision Control® is HIPAA-compliant and a winner of The Architects’ Choice Award from the National Symposium on Healthcare Design.
