The latest edition to the Princess Cruises fleet, the Royal Princess, has set sail with its extensive glass elements protected from the harsh effects of the marine environment thanks to Ritec.

The Royal Princess is the fifteenth Princess Cruises ship to be treated with the award-winning ClearShield System which provides protection for glass from sea spray and other corrosive elements.Moisture, Alkalinity and Dirt (MAD) can easily cause glass, exterior or interior, to become Problem Glass. Unless glass is protected against MAD, it can easily break these promises before, during or after installation – with serious consequences for all. ClearShield®’s proven formulation reacts with the glass and becomes an integral part of the surface. Working like ‘non-stick’ cookware, it chemically bonds to the surface providing a durable and transparent barrier, which is chemically inert, non-hazardous and UV stable. In addition, unlike many other Glass Surface Treatments (GSTs) it will not peel, crack or flake.

A team of Ritec Applicators travelled to Italy to treat over 15,500 square metres of glass on board the Royal Princess. This included the soaring glass atrium, an impressive glass walkway, cabin windows and other exterior glass which all need to maintain a sparkling appearance and optimal vision for greater viewing pleasure. In addition, ClearShield® will help keep the ship’s bridge glass clean whilst at sea which is vital for safety, especially in inclement weather and high sea states.

Catherine,The Duchess of Cambridge christened the ship in Southampton and praised its evolutionary design and use of glass. This is not Ritec’s first royal seal of approval; they have previously won the Prince of Wales Award for Innovation.

Stephen Byers, Managing Director of Ritec, comments: "We are proud to have firmly established Ritec as a key partner of Princess Cruises for glass surface treatments. We continue to grow our business with this significant customer and this latest project continues to reinforce the relationship between the two companies.

Ritec continue to lead the way in the field of ethical GSTs and develop products that differentiate our customers' products. We look forward to developing relationships with other partners to deliver added value to the whole of the glass supply chain.”
