Lakesmere flies high with new aviation contracts

Date: 22 March 2013

National building envelope specialist Lakesmere’s success in the aviation sector is continuing to soar after securing nearly £1.5m of new orders.

Lakesmere South is looking to develop its relationship with main contractor Morgan Sindall and build upon its presence at Heathrow Airport after securing a new contract to refurbish and modify one of the British Airways technical block hangars to accommodate the Airbus A380.The two-phase programme will see Lakesmere install a complex cladding and glazing package that includes Trimo wall panels and Schüco curtain walling. The contract at Heathrow Airport, where Lakesmere is currently completing the striking wave-form roof of the new Terminal 2a building, also follows the specialist contractor’s completion of work at Heathrow’s Terminal 3 for main contractor Morgan Sindall as part of the extension to Pier 5 to create a new Departure Lounge and stand for the Airbus A380.

Two further new appointments will see Lakesmere check in to Gatwick Airport where the South regional team will be delivering the building envelope package on the Airfield Operations Building for main contractor Vinci and also working on the South Terminal Arrivals and Departures building for Morgan Sindall.

Lakesmere North is also enjoying success in the aviation sector as one of its most iconic recent projects, Manchester Airport’s Air Traffic Control Centre, nears completion. Again working with main contractor Morgan Sindall, Lakesmere’s package included the installation of Kalzip roofing and anodised Sotech rainscreen to the Base Building and Tower Cab.
