Guardian Industries Launches First-of-Its-Kind BIM Solution Video Provides a Look At This New Innovation

Date: 12 July 2013
Guardian Industries has launched a first-of-its-kind BIM solution as part of Guardian Glass Analytics – a comprehensive suite of engineering and analytical tools for glass applications.

Guardian’s new web-based BIM Generator BIM Generator, at, is the first tool that populates BIM content with manufacturer data for thermal and optical performances of custom project specific customer IG makeups.

“We’re especially excited to put our new BIM Generator in the hands of architects, in combination with our other industry-leading tools,” said Chris Dolan, director, Commercial Glass Marketing, Guardian Industries. “By working with the Guardian Performance Calculator, another Glass Analytics tool, the BIM Generator can produce project-specific custom content. It’s truly a first for building with glass.”

The BIM Generator creates highly detailed content that represents the correct thickness and color of the inboard and outboard lites. By leveraging visibility settings, users can control the level of detail depending on the desired scale of the view. Additionaly, higher levels of control of the glass bite and additional fabrication needs for heat treatment allow for a much more detailed galzing schedule and material takeoff. The content is created for Revit 2013 to take advantage of Revit’s material analytics for energy simulations. In addition to specific customized makeups, standard makeups will be available for download on, Autodesk Seek, and SmartBIM.

The product made its debut at the 2013 AIA Convention in Denver June 20-22. Guardian representatives were on hand to provide demonstrations of the new tool.
