An interesting presentation of innovative pharma glass products awaits visitors to China Pharm 2009 in Shanghai from the Gerresheimer Group.

In Hall 5 of the New International Expo Center (Stand 5480/5481) it is exhibiting from October 27 to 30 the latest status of technology for injections. Maximum safety in all its forms is the key theme – documented by up-to-date syringe systems and cartridges as well as high-quality vials and ampoules.

In the highly specialized product range, particular focus is on RTF® (Ready to Fill) syringes. In Shanghai, the highly advanced systems which are delivered to the pharma industry in a siliconised, preassembled and finally sterilized condition, i.e. completely ready to fill, are presented by Gerresheimer Bünde in the latest design variants.

These include for example Baked-On-RTF™ – a special siliconisation process developed by Gerresheimer to cater for the specific sensitivity of biopharmaceutics. Innovative possibilities for product identification are also offered: through laser coding a tiny millimeter-sized matrix area on the finger flange makes the nature and origin of the syringe traceable at any time, and heat transfer printing in multicolor allows clear optical separation of calibrations, barcodes and product information. Finally, there are intelligent add-on systems which contribute to safe injections in their own way and have become steadily more popular in the market: including the Rigid Needle Shield TERNS, the Tamper Evident Luerlock Closure TELC and the Backstop, which makes injections easier particularly for users with limited dexterity. In addition to these highlights, Gerresheimer Bünde also exhibits specific insulin cartridges used in pen systems for diabetics.

In China the Gerresheimer Group with its local plants is ideally positioned. Just in the Spring of this year it opened a new high-performance production facility in Danyang (Jiangsu Province), 250 kilometers to the west of Shanghai. This is the largest of now three tubular glassworks in China under the management of Gerresheimer Shuangfeng; for the worldwide Gerresheimer Group it is already the seventh Chinese production plant. Apart from vials and ampoules Danyang also manufactures cartridges for various injection systems, formerly produced by the Group in Europe and America only.

Quality standards are the same throughout the world. "We work consistently with highly qualified teams and to internationally recognized standards", says Burkhard Lingenberg, Director of Marketing and Communication for the Gerresheimer Group. Tradefair visitors in Shanghai can convince themselves of the outstanding standard right across the pharma glass range: in addition to the syringe systems and system components focused on here the exhibition provides a small cross-section of the multifaceted packaging range. This covers the highest quality levels which are today increasingly demanded for example in the case of vials for particularly sophisticated drug categories.
