Fireglass UK Evolves Pyroguard Fire Protection for Dudley College

Date: 25 March 2013

Fireglass UK, a leading approved installer of the Pyroguard range of fire glass solutions, has delivered a comprehensive fire resistant glazing specification for ‘Dudley Evolve’, a new state-of-the-art learning facility at Dudley College.

Appointed by main contractor, ISG Construction, Fireglass UK managed the complete supply and fit programme against an accelerated six week installation period.

To achieve compliance with the relevant fire safety and acoustic regulations in education, Fireglass UK specified a range of Pyroguard EI rated products which provide full integrity with insulation performance and high levels of sound reduction. This included Pyroguard EI 60 at 23mm, which offers an acoustic rating of up to 40dB.

Designed to engage with the local community as well as provide a modern learning environment, the Dudley Evolve centre incorporates a number of high level leisure facilities such as a fitness suite and sports hall. Carrying out the fire glazing works throughout all areas, Fireglass UK installed Pyroguard into a wide variety of screens including hardwood timber, steel and timber secondary screens to curtain walling.

Sean Haynes, Managing Director, Fireglass UK, explains: “The complexity and combination of screens and glazing products on this project demanded a closely coordinated approach. Effective planning ensured we were able to finish our works within the specified time frame but equally importantly – to the highest quality standards.”

Alongside the installation of Pyroguard to achieve the specified levels of fire protection, Fireglass UK undertook the supply and fit of specialist acoustic glazing which included a range of acoustic double glazed units to fulfil varying degrees of sound attenuation.

The Pyroguard range of fire glass solutions is manufactured by CGI International, one of Europe’s leading independent manufacturers of fire resistant glazing. Offering the full range of E, EW and EI rated fire glass, CGI International has extensive test evidence to support the use of these products in all timber, steel, aluminium and partition applications.

Paul Wakeling, Project & Specification Manager, CGI International, concludes: “Fireglass UK have carved a specialism in the market as an expert in the specification and installation of fire resistant glazing. We work closely with them to ensure the timely delivery of Pyroguard products, ultimately helping to keep projects on track and within programme deadlines.”
