The product portfolio of VESTAMID® HTplus just keeps growing: Evonik Industries is offering its PA6T- and PA10T-based polyphthalamide (PPA) products in an ever-growing number of compounds.

The new products include a variant with a glass-fiber content of 45%.

The biobased PA10T is even more efficient than the well known PA6T: It’s easier to process, has better mechanical properties and offers a lower water uptake.

The new reinforcement capabilities of the basic polyphthalamides take into account the many highly demanding automotive applications: coal, mineral, glass fiber, and mineral fiber reinforcements can be used to create virtually any combination of properties.

In the electronics industry, new types are available for use in laser direct structuring. The program also includes materials in Fire Protection Class V0 with a 0.4 mm wall thickness.

"With the new products, we’re not only creating completely new fields of application but also offering our customers significantly heightened design freedom and, in turn, even greater weight-savings potential," says Dr. Nina Hoppe, who is the director of Strategic Planning.

Dirk Heinrich, director of Business Management, adds: "Our portfolio expansion is precisely aligned to the demands of the market. Our customers can expect particularly great things from the launch of new tribologically equipped polyphthalamides and the water/glycol-resistant options for the automotive industry."

Representatives from the distribution partner Brenntag have already experienced the performance of VESTAMID® HTplus first hand—at the DMV Touring Car Championship in mid June, where the Red Motorsport Team raced with a Lotus Exige, which boasts a charge-air duct made of PPA from Evonik.

Frank Dahlke, director of Sales for Brenntag GmbH, was visibly impressed by the performance of the products. "The degree to which typical metal applications in cars are being taken over by high-performance plastics is remarkable."
