Car Glass-maker Saved In Geelong

The nation’s last remaining automotive glass factory - in Geelong - has been saved from closure. Veridian Glass factory, which supplies car windows for Toyota, will be saved by a company takeover after it previously looked that all 100 jobs and its expertise would be closed.





About 60 of the 100 employees will keep their jobs due to the takeover by the MH Group, with the accrued entitlements of all staff at the plant secured and to be paid out by current owner CSR.



CFMEU Forestry and Furnishing Products Division Assistant National Secretary Leo Skourdoumbis says the deal secures employment for staff  "in the midst of tough times".



"For the car industry it means that the last automotive glass factory in Australia will stay in business, the skills and know-how will stay in Australia," Mr Skourdoumbis said.



He said the union was assisted by the state and federal industry ministers to complete the sale and keep the factory open.
