The Czech glass-making company BOMMA (Bohemia Machine) based in Světlá nad Sázavou executed a project for “the biggest whisky bottle in the world”.

The world record was registered in the Guinness Book of Records. The actual bottle was manufactured by Kavalierglass, a renowned producer of household and laboratory glassware.

Edrington Group, the largest Scottish producer of whisky (brands Famous Grouse, Macallan, Highland Park and Cutty Sark), decided to beat the existing Guinness Book record by manufacturing a unique bottle containing at least 200 litres of the Famous Grouse whisky. The existing record of a 174-litre bottle was held by the competitor brand Jack Daniel´s.

Czech glass-makers from Kavalierglass together with Bohemia Machine’s  ngineers and businessmen have created an impressive, hand-blown bottle with a height of 1.7 metres, volume 228 litres and weight of 50 kilograms. The breaking of the world record in filling up a single bottle with genuine Scotch whisky took place on 12th August 2012 at the Famous Grouse headquarters, the oldest Scottish distillery in Glenturret near Edinburgh. During a celebration of the distillery’s 107th anniversary, the Czech bottle took in record-breaking 228 litres of whisky.

Besides Edrington municipal representatives and local political and cultural elite, the attempt at beating the world record and entering the Guinness Book was also witnessed by Dr. Paul Millar, Honorary Consul of the Czech Republic in Scotland, and Bohemia Machine representative Jiří Valenta. The exhibit is now displayed at the Famous Grouse Experience centre in Glenturret, which is visited by more than 200,000 tourists and whisky lovers every year. This is the first Bohemian glass to be entered in the Guinness Book of Records.
