Nickel Sulphide Inclusion

Hi, I would like to understand why self breakage occurred when the glass has gone through the tempered head soak process?

The panel of glass I had previously supplied had occurred a self breakage. Strangely the glass fin which is joint by the sealant was also had a self breakage issue. Why is this so?

Hi Joel,

The Heat Soak Test process does not guarantee that all panels with NiS inclusion will be eliminated. The existing process of HST as per EN 14179 standard confirms so.

However, do verify below;

1. Was the glass really Heat Soak Tested?

2. Was the breakage actually a NiS breakage? Some contractors likes to blame every breakage on NiS.

3. Was the HST process efficient? Was the HST oven calibrated?

Hello Joel,

Due to current float glass production technology, the Nickel Sulphide is inevitably existing. In Chinese standard, 0.3% self explosion rate is within the Industry Standard.

Heat soaked test can only reduce the self-explosion rate of Nickel Sulphide, however, there are other reasons why the glass breakage occurs.
