Light Transmission though storefront windows

I am studying the effectiveness of illuminated signs placed inside the windows of businesses. I find that certian green colored neon signs transmit through glass better than other colors. Can anyone tell me the reason? I know glass is sometimes tinted green which may filter other colors or enchance the green neon. Is glass inherently green or does the tint have to be added? What is the purpose of green glass over any other color?

Thanks to anyone who can help.

I think the tint of green is determined by how
much iron is in the glass.....
